OSI/FCO OXFORD CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS 2004-2005
The International Renaissance Foundation welcomes applications from citizens of
Ukraine for the OSI/FCO Chevening Scholarships 2004-2005, which are jointly
funded by the Open Society Institute and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth
Office.
The scholarships are for postgraduate study for periods of up to one year.

Oxford and Cambridge Colleges Hospitality Schemes
Oxford and Cambridge universities, in conjunction with the Open Society Institute,
offer one-month visiting program for scholars who wish to work in the universities'
libraries or to contact academic specialists in their subjects.
Scholars will normally be post-doctoral or of equivalent status and will be university
teachers or members of research institutes.

American Council of Learned Societies
(ACLS)announces call for applications for its short-term research
grants program in humanities for citizens of Belorus, Russia and
Ukraine for the 2003-2004 academic year.
Research projects are welcomed in all disciplines and topics of
humanities: History, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy,
Ethnic and Cultural Studies, Religious Studies, Visual and Performing
Arts, Gender Studies, etc. Projects in social sciences (such as Political
Sciences, Sociology, Economics, and International Relations)will not
be taken into consideration with the exception of topics related to
history or culture.

СEU CRC has announced its Fall 2003 sessions.
CEU Curriculum Research Center is the Central European University's outreach program for Social
Science teaching.
Each session offers an intensive week-long period for syllabi review, library work and
meetings with CEU professors, department/program heads and also offers the opportunity
of attending CEU teaching sessions in the relevant discipline.

The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program at the
National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is calling for
fellowship applications for 2004-05. Established in 2001 to
enable democracy activists, practitioners, scholars, and journalists
from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy
and enhance their ability to promote democratic change, the
fellowship program is based at the International Forum for
Democratic Studies in Washington, D.C.

the Cambridge Overseas Trust
offers a number of scholarships to enable students of outstanding
academic merit from Ukraine to pursue one-year taught postgraduate
courses of study at the University of Cambridge in subjects
relevant to the needs of their countries.

The Central European University
Center for Policy Studies (CPS) is calling for proposals
for its year 2003 International Policy Fellowships (IPF) program.
The CPS International Policy Fellowships are intended to support
the analytical policy research of open society leaders and to
provide these Fellows with professional policy training. The program
aims to improve the quality of analysis in countries where the Soros
foundations work by ensuring that these leaders are able to
conduct research in their home region.
The product of each fellowship will be a detailed analysis of a
major issue in priority subject areas to be published in English and
translated into other languages.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Initiative in the
Russian Federation and Post-Soviet States
These grants support research and writing projects that have practical
applications for policymaking and society. Interdisciplinary analysis
is encouraged. Individual researchers may request funding for a period
of up to 18 months. Grant funds may cover stipend, research materials,
research-related travel, publication subsidy, and equipment necessary
for the execution of the project.

The purpose of the program is to enable qualified students from the
former Soviet Union to pursue Doctoral studies in Humanities and

The Summer University Program (SUN) of the Central European
University announces a
call for course proposals
for its summer school held in Budapest, July 5 - 30, 2004.
SUN courses are primarily designed for the most promising junior
faculty, researchers, Ph.D. students and professionals.
From 2004 the focus will shift towards high-level, research based,
innovative courses, with a possible interest in the exploration
of the policy implications of the research issues as well.

The EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy associated with the Jean Monnet
Centre of Excellence in European Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences
of Charles University has launched a summer institute to discuss economic,
legal and political challenges of enlarging European Union.
The European Summer Institute 2003 is designed for both undergraduate and
graduate students with demonstrated interest in EU affairs.

COURSE DEVELOPMENT COMPETITION
The Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) of Central European
University announces a call for proposals to develop new,
innovative university courses.
Applicants are invited to develop and teach a one or two semester long course on an
important topic from a new perspective, in the discipline areas listed below:
Qualitative Research Methods (for candidates from the Caucasus and Central Asia);
Anthropology / Cultural Studies/History;
Social Economics;
Philosophy/Religious Studies;
Linguistics;
Political Science.
The competition is open to individuals and groups for 10 month grants.

Soros Supplementary Grants Program
The program was created to assist citizens of the countries of Central
and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia who are pursuing
advanced study within this region but outside of their home countries.

CEU Curriculum Research Center invites university faculty members for CRC visits
focused around the development of new course syllabi (15.11)
The Fund for American Studies,
Georgetown University and Charles University will once again
offer the American Institute on Political and Economic
Systems in Prague, Czech Republic during the summer of 2003.
The Institute offers a cross-cultural educational experience for
university students from Europe, former states of the Soviet Union, and
the United States. The Institute explores the political and economic
climate of Eastern and Central Europe within the post-Soviet era.
Both graduate and undergraduate credit is available from Georgetown University
for students who attend the program.

Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholars Program.
The Centre for Russian and East European Studies (CREES) invites
applications from scholars in Ukraine (and Ukrainianists outside of
Canada) for appointments as a Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholar at the
University of Toronto. The prospective candidates spend four to six
weeks in Toronto conducting research and interacting with Canadian
scholars. They are expected to present a seminar on their work and to
take part in relevant scholarly events. (15.11)
Promoting the idea of international understanding,
the United World Colleges Movement
has brought together top students and faculty from around the world
to exchange ideas, live and grow together. The movement was founded in 1962 to
advance the ideals of understanding, peace and co-operation between nations.
To date, there are 10 related colleges around the world, hosting more than 2,000
international students. The students are selected by the corresponding National
Selection Committees, based on personal merit and commitment to the UWC ideals,
and completely regardless of financial ability, race, or religious beliefs.
