The Harvard University Center for the Environment created the Environmental Fellows program to enable recent doctorate recipients to use and expand Harvard's extraordinary resources to tackle complex environmental problems. The Environmental Fellows will work for two years with Harvard faculty members in any school or department to create new knowledge while also strengthening connections across the University's academic disciplines.
Requirements:

  • Candidates should have received their terminal degree between May 2002 and August 2007. (Fellows must have completed all requirements of their degree before starting work in September 2007.)

  • Candidates with a doctorate or equivalent in any field are eligible, and they may propose research projects in any discipline

  • Each candidate must secure a commitment from one or more Harvard faculty members to serve as a mentor and to provide office or lab space for the two-year fellowship

The John Smith Fellowship Program 2005

  The John Smith Fellowship Scheme
 is an intensive, 6-week program on good governance, democracy and social justice to take place in June/July 2005.

It is available to promising young leaders from Russia, the Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan.

Normally, successful candidates are aged between 25 and 35 and in employment at the time of application.

Preference is given to applicants working in:

  • the political process,

  • legal services, especially in the field of human rights;

  • journalism/broadcasting;

  • government service (including local government);

  • NGOs with explicit involvement in furthering democracy, equal rights and social justice, or promoting democratic access, participation and accountability in government.
